Charlie's Grandfather clock hasn't worked since before his heart attack. The key was broken off in the lock, so I had to get a screwdriver and take apart the lock from the inside. I was able to accomplish this, and I made a latch to hold the glass door open or closed at will (shown below). The next step was to level it. Charlie and I had had a beer when I first arrived, and the two Michelob bottle caps were still on the table, so I used these to level the clock. They were perfect. You can see the two gold bottlecaps if you look carefully . Then the highlight of Sunday evening was staying up until 9:00 (he's working on his endurance), so we talked about Kirkwood and trains until 8:45, which is when we started the pentulum on the Grandfather clock. Lo and Behold, by the next morning, it was still ticking, and right on time! |
